Chia Costa Rica - Sustainable Swimwear & Plastic Free Goods

MATERIAL

We are advocates of working towards a circular fashion, that’s why we invest in manufacturing our swimwear with sustainable techno-fabric. ECONYL® regenerated nylon is made of waste rescued from post-consumer products, like carpets, and environmentally threatening debris, like ghost nets. Our swimwear fabric’s composition varies between 78% to 90% of this recycled polyamide and the outstanding 22% to 10% is elastane. Once these two materials are blended, they cannot be recycled again, so we are pushing our suppliers and investing to find a solution to make this a truly circular material.

For now, we are avoiding using raw material and creating pieces that are long-lasting thanks to their high-performance qualities. The fabrics are soft, breathable, and twice as resistant to chlorine, suntan creams, and oils than other competitors’ fabrics. They are also UPF50+.

Since the opening of our first store in 2015, we created our own campaign called 1% FOR OUR OCEANS®. As a business, we felt the responsibility to give back to what we care for the most – the ocean. We partnered with Costa Rican non-profit organization: Misión Tiburón (which translates to Shark Mission. Misión Tiburón promotes the conservation of marine species, especially of sharks, and the responsible use of marine resources, through the development of integrated projects of marine education and scientific research.

PRE-OWNED RACK

The latest initiative of our brand; this milestone is part of our commitment to stand against fast fashion. Through the Pre-Owned, we are providing a new life to carefully selected second-hand garments promoting circular, conscious fashion. Each month we invite a client or influencer to sell those garments she no longer uses or has never worn before. Her consignment pieces will be displayed either in our physical or digital Pre-Owned. PLASTIC FREE PACKAGING

We banned single-use plastic in our business. All our packaging is made of 100% recycled post-consumer paper and has been designed to look like a French patisserie cake box – very cute! Our online orders come in recycled paper satchels (no plastic, no bioplastic, no plant-based plastic). We care about our ocean and beaches and we know you care as well, so we make sure you can purchase guilt-free. We are working towards having no single-use plastic in our supply chain by receiving our stock packed in bundles rather than an individual plastic bag for each garment.
